Five Red Lipsticks + Reviews

Can y’all believe that January is already halfway over?! Time sure does fly when you’re having fun…lol! I love a red lip for the holiday season, but also for winter in general! I feel like a bold, red lip can really make a look pop, but some women can be afraid to try it. I personally feel that red is a universal color that, depending on the shade, looks gorgeous on everyone. There is a shade of red for every skin tone! Today I am reviewing five red lip colors, and hopefully helping you break out of your comfort zone and try a bold lip color!

When it comes to lipstick, no woman ever wants it to smear, but we especially don’t want a red lip to smear in fear that we will end up looking like a clown! I took that into account when trying each of these lip colors! I linked each of the lip colors in the title, just click the link to shop! *these are commissionable links, but all opinions are my own*.

1. Kylie Lip Kit

Score: 8/10

Shade: Mary Jo K

Price: $29.00

Disclaimer, I’ve actually had this for two years, so although this product is not new to me, I definitely felt the need to include it in this post! Now, I have my personal feelings about the Kardashian clan, but I can’t deny that Kylie’s lip kits are really great quality. The kit is $29 and comes with the liner and the liquid lipstick. What I love about this product is the durability of it: this isn’t going anywhere once you’ve applied it! This is a matte liquid lipstick, but I personally do not find it drying at all. What I don’t like about this product is just how liquidy it is during application, especially as someone with smaller lips than the Kardashians. Because it is a liquid product, it can be a little messy when applying, so I am sure to take my time when applying to ensure it doesn’t drip or run anywhere!

2. Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick

Score: 8.5/10

Shade: Exhilarator

Price: $7.99

I have this liquid lipstick in a different shade (dreamer), so I wanted to try it out in a shade of red to see if I love it just as much. As it turns out, I do! I would consider this a perfect dupe for the Kylie Lip Kit that I just shared. The colors are very similar, and they have a very similar consistency. This product is also indestructible, and will absolutely not be going anywhere once applied! Just like the Kylie Lip Kit, this is a matte product, but I personally do not feel like this is drying at all. The only downside that I have for this product is the applicator. It is very wide (they recently changed the applicator shape, it used to be a typical lipgloss applicator), which again makes it a little more difficult for girls with smaller lips to apply. It takes time and precision, but once it’s on, it’s gorgeous!

3. Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick

Score: 9/10

Shade: Tell Laura

Price: $34.00

It is no surprise that I love all Charlotte Tilbury products. She creates some of my most favorite cosmetics! I have this lipstick in the classic shade, Pillow Talk, so I ordered it in a red shade knowing the quality will be amazing. The only reason I did not give this a perfect 10/10 is because on its own, it does transfer (kisses, drinking with straws, etc). The color is definitely more of an orange-red rather than deep red, so I personally think this is a better shade for spring/summer. However, this lipstick is super moisturizing and lightweight. It is easy to apply and looks beautiful on!

4. NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment

Score: 5/10

Shade: Starwoman

Price: $28.00

NARS is another luxury beauty brand that I truly do love. I have purchased their lip colors in the past and have been impressed, but sadly that is not the case with this one. As I mentioned earlier, we want to avoid lipsticks that smear easily to avoid looking like the Joker from Batman. Unfortunately, this one smeared…a lot. It took two tries to get it right for this photo! The pigment is super liquidy, to the point where it was dripping off of the applicator. When applied to my lips, it was dripping in some areas and I quickly had to dab to ensure it didn’t drip anymore. The color is pretty, but personally, not worth the mess that it makes.

5. NYX Liquid Lip Lingerie XXL Matte Lipstick

Score: 4/10

Shade: Stamina

Price: $8.99

I wanted to love this, I really did! I have other NYX lipglosses that I absolutely love (my favorite shade is “embellishment”), but this lipstick was super drying, unlike others that the brand makes. This also had a very large applicator, making it difficult to neatly apply this to my tinier lips. Although the color is gorgeous and this is definitely “wear-all-day” (it’s definitely not coming off!), it made my lips feel really dry immediately after application, which is a big no for me.
