Capsule Wardrobe: Winter/Spring

Believe it or not, this has been a highly requested post, and I am excited to finally have the time to do it! I say this because a capsule wardrobe is so essential and important (in my opinion), that I wanted to ensure I dedicated the time and energy to get this post absolutely perfect. So, what is a capsule wardrobe? A capsule wardrobe is limited number of clothing items that all compliment each other and can be worn interchangeably. The important thing to remember about a capsule wardrobe is that it is yours. So, what my ideal capsule wardrobe might be may be different than what you envision for yourself, and that’s okay! These are pieces that you love to wear and can get lots of use out of, rather than having a blouse you only wear once and then it sits in the closet for a few years, never to see the light of day again.

The purpose of a capsule wardrobe is to minimize the amount you are spending on clothes, as well as how much space your clothes are taking up. Considering minimalism is a huge trend with our generation (heyyyyy millennials!), capsule wardrobes have become increasingly popular, so I’m not surprised I have received some requests for this!

Chances are, you already have the basis of your capsule wardrobe in your closet! What I suggest is going through your closet after reading this post and pulling the items you wear all the time, or you know you can wear over and over again. These are the pieces that will carry you through all, or most, seasons and that you can style many different ways. After you have these pieces, I recommend going through your wardrobe and picking out pieces that you have not worn in the past year. These items will be donated or tossed! Trust me, I know it’s hard. I am the QUEEN of “well that’s such a good top, I’m sure I’ll wear it again!” as it sits in my closet for years collecting dust. Girl, let it go. Be honest with yourself and recognize that as much fun as that top was, it no longer serves you (and hasn’t for the past year or so) and would be better off in a new home.

Like I said, everyone’s capsule wardrobe will be different based on your lifestyle and personal taste. I’m sharing my personal picks to get started with a capsule wardrobe: pieces that can be styled a thousand different ways, but also pieces that are classic and you can pull to wear with any outfit. *You can shop each post by clicking on the photo!*

Again, shoes will vary by personal style and lifestyle. If you prefer flats over heels, then a flat bootie may be better for your wardrobe! I personally like a nude open toe sandal and pump to have in the closet to go with virtually any outfit. I also love to have a pair of nude and black mules, but if you prefer ballet flats or loafers, then have those handy instead!

Tops for winter and spring are pretty basic, but again, can be layered or styled in so many different ways. Here I have basic white, black and gray tops, but yours might include navy or a black and white stripe!

Pants, again, will vary based on personal preference and lifestyle! I believe it is important to have a few good pair of jeans in your wardrobe: a dark wash, black wash, and lighter wash to style different ways! The style of jeans is totally up to you: skinny, straight, high waisted or mid-rise, it’s whatever you are comfortable in! Here I shared tan and black work pant options, but if you work from home or a healthcare professional and don’t wear professional workwear, then maybe opt for a black midi skirt or leather skirt (again, all about preference)!
