Clean Products to Get During the Sephora Spring Savings Event

Happy Thursday, friends! The Sephora Spring Savings event starts tomorrow for Rouge rewards members, and opens to everyone on the 18th. Depending on your rewards tier, you get to shop with a specific discount that applies to almost everything at Sephora, which is why this sale is so popular! Now is the time to snag brands that never go on sale, including everything from skincare to fragrance. I like to use this time to try new products, as well as stock up on my favorites!

If you have been following on Instagram, then you know that I have been conscious of products I am using, specifically looking at the toxins they may contain. As I finish a product, I have been trying to make non-toxic or low-toxic replacements. I have a whole highlight dedicated to this on my Instagram page, which you can find here. What I have found interesting through my research is that what might be considered “clean” in the U.S., is not actually clean of harmful ingredients. In fact, Sephora is actually facing a lawsuit regarding their “clean” label, as it seems that products labeled “clean” at Sephora may be without sulfates or parabens, a lot of those products still contain synthetic materials and harmful ingredients. The problem is not Sephora, though, as the company is simply following the U.S. guidelines for what we, as a country, consider to be “clean”. As it turns out, the U.S. allows a lot more ingredients in our products that are completely banned in Europe and Asia, which is super disappointing.

I spent my weekend in Sephora scanning every single item with the Yuka app to see what is actually toxin-free and what isn’t. I’ve dedicated this blog post to sharing products and brands that truly are clean at Sephora that you can snag during the sale! If you scroll to the bottom, you will find a list of brands that are truly 100% clean of toxic ingredients, as well as brands that Sephora claims to be “clean”, but may still contain harmful chemicals.

As always, you can click on the photos to shop the products. *Photos contain commissionable links.

Starting with base face makeup, I want to highlight Kosas, as they are truly a clean company, meaning that all of their products are non-toxic and safe to use! I personally have used their foundation and concealer, and they are super hydrating. If you have dry skin, this brand would be great to try!

Other brands that are 100% clean and all products are safe to use are Saie and Ilia. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a few Charlotte Tilbury products on the clean side, especially the Beautiful Skin foundation. I use this and love it! I also want to mention that although Haus Labs is labeled clean at Sephora, not all of their products are actually clean. I scanned each one and have included the clean ones in this post!

Next up are bronzers, blush and highlighters. Another brand that is 100% clean is Milk. I love their primer, and have heard amazing things about their blush! I was also pleasantly surprised to see Rare Beauty blush on the clean side as it is my absolute favorite. I wear shade “hope”.

I’m not going to lie, friends, it was pretty tricky to find clean eye products. However, I was happy to see that certain Sephora palettes (linked in the photo) are clean! Note: Lawless is another brand that is labeled “clean” at Sephora, but not all of their products are actually clean! Their eyeshadows are, though!

Lip products are another category that had very few clean options; however, I was excited to see this specific Fenty lipstick on the clean side! I was also excited about the Makeup by Mario lipstick, as I’ve heard great things about it!

When it comes to hair products, I want to say that each brand is pretty consistent in either being clean or not. Briogeo, Bondi Boost, Necessaire and JVN are all 100% clean and all products are made with safe ingredients. Gisou and Vegamore are labeled clean, but not all of their products are! Additionally, Amika is labeled as a clean brand at Sephora, but I was heartbroken to find that none of their products are actually clean!

As with haircare, I learned that skincare lines are also pretty consistent with being clean or not. However, I want to note a few brands that are labeled clean at Sephora, but not all products are: Summer Friday’s, Drunk Elephant, Supergoop!, Youth to the People, Fenty Skin, and Skin Fix are all labeled clean, but very few of their products actually are. Caudalie, Glow Recipe, Farmacy, Tata Harper and Herbivore are all 100% clean.

To summarize, here is a list of all brands that are 100% clean of toxic ingredients:

  • Ilia

  • Saie
  • Herbivore
  • Glow Recipe
  • Caudalie
