Updated Skincare Routine

I am so excited to write this post for a few reasons. First, because I have been loving the products that I have been using the past months! Second, I feel like I always use the same products and never “branch out”. When it comes to skincare, this definitely applies. I had been using Tula products religiously for three years. I’m all about “why fix something if it isn’t broken?!”, and for me, Tula was great! I used their cleanser, toner, and moisturizer, and some of those products I still do use! I think that Tula products are fantastic, and I will always use their exfoliating mask and face filter primer. These are two products that I absolutely swear by!

However, this quarantine has everything messed up, including my skin (I like to blame the masks!). I had been breaking out a lot more than usual, and my skin just felt dull, dry and tired, despite drinking tons of water and getting more sleep than I probably ever have in my life! I remember reading years ago that using the same shampoo and conditioner is actually bad for your hair, because your hair will get used to the product and its’ effects will wear off. I started wondering if the same was true for skincare, so I did some research and decided to try a few new products. I’ll be sharing both my morning and nighttime skincare routine here!

Morning Routine

So, I switched from my Tula face wash and toner to the Olehenriksen “Truth Juice” face wash and Olehenriksen “Balancing Force” oil control toner. I have been wanting to try this brand for awhile now because I have heard amazing things, and I am happy to report that all of the amazing things I have heard are true! Starting with the “Truth Juice”, it smells amazing. It has a lovely citrus fragrance that helps wake you up in the morning, but isn’t too overpowering. I use this with my face scrubber from Sephora every morning and my face feels so clean afterwards, without over drying! This cleanser claims to revive dull, dead skin, and I have 100% seen that with my own skin.

I decided to try the Balance line from Olehenriksen because I have combination skin, and the oil around my forehead, chin and nose has always bothered me. It is especially bad with this Texas heat! This toner promises to clear the debris from pores while shrinking their appearance to control oil production. I love this toner because I can feel it working; my skin feels tingly once I use it, and it doesn’t dry out my skin! I can definitely tell a difference in oil production around my nose, but not so much my forehead or chin yet. Hopefully I will notice a difference with time!

When it comes to moisturizer, I definitely used to be the person who didn’t think she needed any in the summer because my skin “didn’t feel dry”. Now that I am older and wiser (lol), I understand the importance of using a moisturizer daily, and I have incorporated two into my morning routine. The first is the Oil Control Hydrator, which I’m not actually sure if it is a true moisturizer, but it feels like one! After using my toner, I apply this and let it dry for a few minutes. It is like one added step of protection from oily skin! It is lightweight and feels clean on the skin. After this has dried, I apply Olay Whipped with SPF all over my face and neck. Again, since I am older and wiser now, I also understand the importance of SPF. I have loved Olay products in the past, so I figured that I would try this moisturizer. I love it! It doesn’t make my skin oily or shiny, and it doesn’t smell like sunscreen at all. It’s a perfect daytime moisturizer for combination skin!

Nighttime Routine

I decided to use two different cleansers: one for morning and one for evening because I wanted to see if I could really tell the difference and see the benefits that each of these claims it will give me. I decided to use the Balance Oil Control cleanser at night because it is supposed to really clear your pores, and I figured this would be a great cleanser to take the day off of my skin. I was nervous that it would dry my skin out, but that is not the case, and I personally have come to love this cleanser. It has a minty fragrance and my skin tingles as I use it, but I can really feel my skin being cleaned and rid of all of the junk that it encountered throughout the day. I follow this cleanser with the Balancing Force Oil Control Toner, and let the toner dry for a few minutes. I then follow with my all-time favorite serum, the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. This product feels amazing on my skin after using the two other products! It helps to restore your skin, and since I have been using this (since December 2019), I have not struggled with dry skin at all.

I allow the concentrate to dry on my skin for a few minutes, then I apply the Tula Hydrating Day and Night cream all over my face and neck. I adore this moisturizer, and I wake up every morning with hydrated skin because of it. It is a really great moisturizer; however, I feel it is a little too heavy for daytime use, so I only use it at night. Last, I apply this Jack Black Eye De-Puffing Cooling Gel. Yes, I know this is technically for men…I actually purchased this for Alex for Christmas, but I have been using it! It feels so good on the undereye area, and definitely helps prevent puffy eyes in the morning.

And that’s it! Clean, clear, hydrated skin! πŸ™‚ I will continue to update y’all on my skincare routine; however, as mentioned earlier, it rarely changes. I truly have been loving the Olehenriksen products that I have been using the past month, and I promise you that I would not share them with you otherwise! I want my blog to be my blog, meaning my opinion and feelings on products. I would not be sharing these with y’all if I truly did not love them! This post is in no way sponsored by any company, all opinions are my own, and I just want to share them with you so if you’re anything like me, you might be willing to branch out from your old routine and try something new! πŸ™‚
