Five Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day for Free

If I’m being honest, I have never been one of those girls who hates Valentine’s Day and throws anti-love parties. In fact, I’m the exact opposite! Even during my single years, I have loved Valentine’s Day and the ideas surrounding it. Even though it is a romantic holiday, it’s also a day to celebrate your friendships and close family members that you love, too!

Now that I am in a relationship, I understand just how expensive it can be to celebrate this day of love! Even when Alex and I agree to set a budget, we usually end up going over. I am the first person to know how easy it is to go overboard for holidays, so I’ve started thinking of other ways that I can show my love that don’t cost an arm and a leg!

  1. The Classic Love Letter

I have always been a hopeless romantic, ever since I was a little girl. I think that I can contribute this to all of the Nicholas Sparks books that I began reading in middle school! I also consider myself good with words, which I can attribute to my mother, who always pushed me to write and write well. I don’t care if you are a romantic or not, it is always nice to hear how much you are loved! It might take a bit of time, but won’t cost you a dime to write the ones you love and let them know just what they mean to you!

2. Movie Marathon

Time is the greatest gift of all, and since it’s usually cold in February, who wouldn’t want an excuse to lay in bed or on the couch all day and watch movies?! Take turns watching both of your favorite movies and just spend the time together technology-free (minus the TV…). Pop some popcorn or maybe order some takeout, but just spend the day enjoying some of your favorite movies together!

3. Breakfast in Bed

Okay, this one might cost a little bit of money if you don’t already have the ingredients, but it’s still super cheap! Wake up a little early and surprise your loved one with their favorite breakfast in bed. There are ways to make this specific to Valentine’s Day, too! Add some pink sprinkles to your waffles or make your pancakes in the shape of a heart. A delicious way to show them you love them!

4. Date Night Jar

Although this may seem cheesy, I bet to a lot of couples this would come in handy! I feel as though a lot of us get into the same routine of dinner and drinks on the weekends, but not really doing anything different. Come up with a list of things you can do together on the weekends, and when you’re tired of the same old routine, pick one out! Some ideas that you can include are below:

  • Bowling
  • Wine and paint class
  • Indoor skydiving (trying to be adventurous here!)
  • Walk in the park
  • Cooking class
  • Play with animals that are up for adoption
  • Take a road trip to the closest city and explore
  • Find a new recipe you both want to try and cook together!
  • Brewery or winery tours

The list of what you guys can do together is endless!

5. Tackle Something on Their To-Do List

Honestly, this doesn’t sound too glamorous, and I really wouldn’t want to look at the toilet and figure out why the water won’t stop running. But, it’s the thought that counts! Talk to your partner about what needs to get done and figure out a way to attempt getting it done for them. Even if that means washing the dishes or taking their car to get washed. The thought and action put behind it will be so meaningful to them, even if you don’t necessarily get it right!
