Let me tell you all, this post has been a long time coming! I had my first microblading appointment in August, and had every intention of writing this soon after. I had my follow up appointment earlier in October, and then planned on writing this post right after that…Well, here we are, nearly two months later, and I am finally writing this post. Better late than never, right?!
First, let me start with some background on microblading, my eyebrows and what made me want to go through this process. Microblading is the semi-permanent tattooing of eyebrow pigment. The esthetician uses a handheld tool and scrapes it across your eyebrows, making small movements and marks to darken and shape your eyebrows! The reason why I looked into microblading is because I have very thin, light eyebrows. Prior to having this process done, I had to pencil them in every single day. It was the last thing I wanted to do in the mornings before heading to work, so I began looking for solutions.
I started researching microblading as well as eyebrow tinting, and after much research, I decided to go with microblading. Although there was a healing period, I knew it would be more beneficial for me in the long run than eyebrow tinting. I have always struggled with the shade of my eyebrows, but also with the shape (I am horrible at shaping them myself!), so I knew microblading was the way to go!
I scheduled an appointment with Judy at The Posh Peepers. For those of you in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, this is located in Frisco, just north of Dallas! Just as I had researched the microblading process, I researched countless salons in the Dallas area before finally scheduling an appointment. The Posh Peepers had excellent reviews, the salon looked clean and Judy had rave reviews. Please keep in mind that every salon is different, so my personal experience at the salon may be different than others. I am simply here to share my experience and hopefully give you a little more insight to the process!
When I scheduled my appointment, the receptionist walked me through how the process would go: the whole microblading process would take two appointments. The first appointment would take about two hours, and the second would be just a quick touch-up, and would take about 30 minutes. My first appointment did last about two hours, and Judy began by color matching me and measuring my shape and brow area. She was incredibly detailed and took her time while doing this. She also checked with me in a mirror multiple times for me to approve the shape, which I greatly appreciated.
Once we agreed on the shape, she finally began the microblading process. For the first layer, she did not apply any numbing cream, but I personally did not find the blade to be too uncomfortable. It really felt like someone was just tweezing my eyebrows. For the second layer, she applied a numbing cream and I could not feel a thing. But really…she could have waxed my entire eyebrow off and I would not have felt it. The numbing cream made the process that much better! A few hours later and the transition to beautiful brows was finally complete. I left with a gentle cleanser and healing balm to wash and apply day and night for a week.
The healing process was much better than I expected. I had read horror stories of other women’s eyebrows becoming infected, so I took extra care to be careful with my new brows. I gently washed them with the cleanser that Judy provided me every morning and night, and applied a thin layer of the healing balm. About a week later, they were finally all healed. The next day after I had gotten them done, the outline of the brows were just a tad red, but this is because they had scabbed from the blade. The photo below was taken three days after my appointment, and you can tell that my brows are dark, but they do not look red or inflamed.
About 6 weeks later I went in for my touch-up appointment, which really did last only about 30 minutes. She lightly touched up the outline of my brows and made sure that I was happy with how they turned out, which I was. Now, the pigment should last about a year, depending on how much time I spend in the sun determines how they will fade. I 100% recommend this process for anyone looking to minimize the amount of daily work they put into their brows, as I intend to continue this process for years to come. The shape of my brows is absolutely beautiful, perfect for my face, and the color is spot-on. For me, my eyebrows are now one less thing to worry about, which is such a relief!
As I mentioned before, every salon is different, so my experience may be different than yours! All in all, my tips for you are to do your research on salons. Read reviews and reach out to any other ladies you may know who have gone through this process, and ask where they went! Microblading, like a haircut, can be an incredible or a devastating experience. You want to go to someone who you trust will do a good job and make you look the best that you can! Make sure that the esthetician measures you correctly and that you approve of the shape before she starts adding pigment! Microblading is an incredible process that can help save you time in your beauty routine and make you feel your best. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested!
