Okay y’all, I know that I’m a few days late past the first official day of summer, but nonetheless, here we are! As I’m sure you already know, I have spent a lot of time during this time at home to online shop. There are so many gorgeous pieces and new trends for this summer, but there is something about those summer staples that will always remain classic. I’ve decided to round up my favorite summer wardrobe staples, and items I believe every lady must have in her closet during these hot months.
First and foremost: the classic t-shirt, in multiple colors. White t-shirts and denim shorts are a classic in the summer months, but it’s good to have a couple other colors as well! Your t-shirts are much more versatile than you probably think. You can pair them with shorts and a cute pair of sandals, or knot them with a midi skirt and sneakers. I am obsessed with the J. Crew Essential tee, and have it in five different colors! I’ve linked others here that I also love!
You can’t survive summer without a good pair of denim shorts. You can find my denim shorts round-up here, where I talk about my favorite pairs of denim shorts that I’ve found over the years! Again, your denim shorts are versatile! Wear them over your bathing suit to the beach or pool, or throw them on with a cute graphic tee and sandals to run around town in. You can even dres them up with a cute pair of wedges and top! I 100% believe in investing in a good pair of denim shorts that will last you years. Again, you can find my picks linked in this post!
A classic t-shirt dress is a must during the summer! They’re so easy to just throw on and go! They’re perfect for throwing on as a cover-up for the beach or pool, as well as the perfect staple to wear to backyard barbecues. Plus, they’re so comfortable!
Summer months are busy, between vacations, trips to the beach or pool, amusement parks, or just going to a friends house for a barbecue or wine night on the porch. It’s important to have a bag that you can stuff everything in: towels, sunscreen, water bottles, snacks, etc. I love straw bags, and there’s just something about them that scream summer! Plus, they’re neutral, and go with every outfit. They are perfect to have handy for those days where you need to put everything but the kitchen sink in your purse!
Another staple that I 100% believe is worth the investment: a good pair of neutral sandals. Now, I’m not saying you need to spend $200 on a pair of sandals, but I do think it’s important to have something other than the $5 flip flops from Old Navy in your closet! As fun as some bright, decorative sandals are, it’s important to have a go-to pair that goes with every outfit. I love these shade and shore sandals for everyday looks, and these Tory Burch ones for a little dressier look.
Denim shorts are important, but a dressier pair of shorts are just as important! You never know when your friends will call you up for a last-minute happy hour on a rooftop, so you want to have a nicer outfit ready to go! I am obsessed with these shorts from Ann Taylor for several reasons: they fit like a glove, they’re super comfortable, and they make any outfit look so classy. These are shorts you’ll have in your closet for years! You can easily pair with a cami or cute top and a good pair of wedges, and you’re ready to go for a summer evening look!
Chances are, you’ll be invited to some summer weddings. I feel like summer is such a popular time to get married! Even if you’re not, it’s good to have a classic pair of two-strap heels in your closet. You can pair these with literally anything: fancier dresses, nice shorts, a skirt, or even denim shorts! I also think a good pair of wedges are a must-have! Again, you want a pair that will go with everything, or almost everything. I have the older version of these wedges and absolutely love them! They are comfortable and will match almost any outfit!
Having these staples pieces is a great way to start to build your summer wardrobe. Once you have these, you can venture into more trendier styles that maybe won’t last as long, but will look great this year! I’ve always been a one for classic styles, so I think there are just some things that your closet should never be without. What are some closet staples that you have to have in your wardrobe?!
