I’m not going to lie, I have been dreading June 20 ever since this pandemic started. For weeks, I suffered the anxiety of possibly postponing our special day. Once we finally did, I felt a little bit better knowing that we had a plan. Then, as the days drew nearer to our original wedding date, I began feeling utterly sad again. The truth is, I have seen other brides continuing with their original wedding plans and who had their special days. I was jealous. I am so thankful that we moved our date and that next year, we will have a beautiful wedding, but I wanted those moments to happen now. Rather than spending our original wedding date sad that I wasn’t wearing a white dress and walking down the aisle, Alex and I decided to still keep the day special by planning small things to celebrate our love.
Alex was so sweet and bought a big bouquet of peonies, which would have been my bridal bouquet. Fresh flowers are always lovely to have in the home, and it was sweet to have the same flowers that would have filled my bouquet and our reception venue. As if this bouquet wasn’t enough, I received more bouquets from my sweet friends and family. I’m definitely one of those girls who enjoys flowers, and surprise bouquets just put the biggest smile on my face!
We have a favorite bakery here in Dallas, so for breakfast, Alex picked up some special treats for us to enjoy with some mimosas. It was nice to have a slow and indulgent breakfast together and enjoy some yummy pastries! Later in the day, we enjoyed a wonderful, decadent meal together that I dare say, rivals our wedding dinner options! My brother was so thoughtful and sent us some Omaha steaks, which were absolutely delicious. We paired them with lobster and artichokes, one of my favorite vegetables! Alex and I usually enjoy special meals like this on occasion, like birthdays or anniversaries, so it was nice to enjoy this meal together on what would have been a special day.
Knowing us, we cannot forget dessert; we both have such big sweet tooths! (teeth?) We love the show Friends, and I had seen this cake somewhere on Instagram and knew that I had to replicate it! I found a local baker here in Dallas and ordered a cake with the same flavors as our wedding cake, which we were both looking forward to! Like I said earlier with the decorations, we have to make the best of our situation. A normal cake would be just as nice, but we are the type of couple to add humor to situations, so this cake was perfect for us! (If you are also a Friends fan, you will understand this!)
At the end of the day, I am so happy that we did not let our original wedding date just go by like any other day. Although we did not get married and we still have to wait until next June, we made the most of our situation and spent the day enjoying each others company and spending quality time together, along with some yummy food! If you are a Covid-19 bride and in a similar situation, I highly suggest planning something special for your original day. Whether it be a nice meal, binge watching your favorite show together all day, going on a mini trip or even taking a staycation, plan something special for you two that you will remember!
